Owner and executive chef of Northwoods lodge, Shan Johnson delights her family and guests with daily catches, her collection of family recipes, and produce from her gardens.
Shan has many gardens and a greenhouse where she grows a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, tomatoes, chili's and tubers. And that is on top of her abundant numbers of flower gardens. Her season starts early to be able to provide organic produce for her clientele.
She pays close attention to planing out her menu for the week and even keeps a journal of the meals she prepares for repeat clients so you will always have something new to try. A variety of specialty meats are often served during your stay including house smoked salmon. Dine on a fresh buttery Alaskan King Salmon or tasty Silver or Sockeye fillets.
Desserts , cookies and breads are made from scratch in her commercial kitchen daily and includes her guests favorite, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.
Enjoy summer afternoon with a bottle of wine and appetizers such as an assortment of domestic and imported cheeses, a charcutarie platter of local meats, salmon tar tar, house made dips, tapenades, bruchettas from greenhouse tomatoes and hot, gourmet hors'd voeurs.
A large spacious dining room with native birch wainscoting and two lounge areas provide a comfortable place to visit and share stories after a day of fishing. Hearty buffet style gourmet meals are served to compliment your Alaska Fishing Lodge experience. You can look forward to dining on fresh Lake Creek salmon, Alaskan Halibut, Rib Eye Steaks and delicious side dishes to satisfy hungry fisherman. Enjoy a glass or two of wine, a beer or your favorite mixed drink out on our large deck overlooking Fish Lakes Creek before dinner.
The dining room also serves well for corporate meetings.
Your professional fishing guides know that our fishing is the most productive early in the morning, so your fishing day begins at 5:00 a.m. The chef will have a breakfast cooler ready for you to take with you in the boat. On-boat breakfasts consist of a variety of fresh muffins or pastries, bagels with fresh house smoked salmon, tasty breakfast burritos, fresh fruits, juices, yogurts, cookies, gourmet coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Hot egg sausage croissant sandwiches are offered at the main lodge before your boat departs in the morning. Boats return to the lodge at 10:30 a.m. and a large buffet brunch is served at 11:00 a.m.
Our meals are prepared with the freshest foods from our catch and our garden whenever possible.
After brunch, take advantage of our hot tub to warm up or take a nap in your room or on our large deck before going back out fishing later in the afternoon. A five-course, gourmet dinner is served at the lodge at 6:00 pm every evening to allow for evening fishing afterwards. Our gourmet salmon dishes have been featured in Fish Alaska Magazine.
